The Modern Cottage is a 3BHK apartment, transformed into a 2BHK apartment. It is located in one of the greenest places sharing proximity with Shivaji Park, Mumbai. Kumpal Vaid, of the Purple Backyard, is the principal designer and architect of this project. The project stays close to the client’s heart because he gifted it to his parents and his brother. The idea of this project was to retain the cottage style of the older generation without compromising on the modern design. It is spread over a modest 1400 sq. ft. area, engulfing the spectacular view of the surrounding area. The cottage is an essence of the flabbergasted beachy vibes that add more to its uniqueness. You might be wondering about the paramount construction materials that have made this cottage outstanding.
Material of Architecture:
This section dissects the paramount construction materials used in this project. The White Matt Finish Laminate, the WPC White Fluted Panel, and the White Ceramic Tiles are the materials that have made this project a special deal. What will you gain by reading about these materials? Your understanding of the construction materials will help you discriminate between the quality and purpose of opting for that specific material. Let us begin the dissection of these outstanding materials.
The White Matt Finish Laminate:
Ensued by the rigorous and sophisticated finish, the white matt finish laminate is highly suitable for fashionable interiors. They are chiefly available in the following sizes: 9MM, 12MM, 18MM, and 25MM; and their quality is determined by their thickness. This laminate finds its applications mostly ranging from educational institutions to libraries, restaurants, warehouses, gyms & fitness clubs, hotels, offices, and homes. A matt finish is a type that is ordinary and has an achromatic surface.
Advantages:
- Immune to fingerprints and scratches.
- They look brighter and are more consistent with colors.
Factors to consider:
- Because its surface is not smooth, cleaning it might seem difficult.
- If stained, the laminate needs replacement.
The WPC White Fluted Panel:
The WPC stands for Wood Plastic Composite. It is a panel prepared from recycled materials, fibers, and processed plastic materials such as HDPE (High Definition Polyethylene), LDPE (Low-Density Polyethylene), and PVC (Poly Vinyl Chloride).
Advantages:
- The finish is clean, calming, and relaxing to the eye.
- Resistant to all sorts of damages, water, termite, and mold.
Factors to consider:
- Intolerant to high temperatures
- Chlorine is its main component, and it is very volatile in nature, so there could be health-related hazards in the worst-case scenarios.
Off-White Pendant Lamp:
Pendant lamps are synonymous with a suspender or a drop. They are mostly used in kitchens, dining rooms, and bathrooms. The beauty of these hanging lamps is that they add to the aesthetic appeal of the living space. They come in a variety of sizes, shapes, and materials such as plastic, glass, and concrete. Many new models, these days, contain low-voltage halogen or fluorescent bulbs.
Advantages:
- They are smaller than a chandelier and occupy less space.
- Useful to set the thematic preferences for your house.
Factors to consider:
- Because they appeal to certain thematic preferences, they are considered to be old-fashioned and are bought less frequently.
- They are smaller than the mainstream lighting, so they cannot adequately light some rooms.
White ceramic wall tile:
They are a mixture of clay, sand, and water. “Advanced Ceramics” is the new market name for ceramics. The most common dimensions of the tile are 12” x 24”, 24” x 24”, and 12” x 48”. They are popular as glazed ceramic tiles, wall tiles, and flooring.
Advantages:
- Easy to clean, and long-lasting.
- Hard and not easily breakable.
Factors to consider:
- Ceramics are cold, if used as flooring, then usage of slippers becomes indispensable.
- They have heavy weight.
Conclusion:
The modern cottage is a perfect representation of the art of architecture and interior design. The architects have done a commendable job while suggesting to their clients the right construction materials for this project.
