To begin with, Bijoux Residence got constructed by GA Design in 2019. The project is a residential duplex apartment that sports a view of the sea link and the Arabian Sea. The area under construction was 3000 sqft. The Arabian Sea and the sea link? Of course! It has to be Matunga, Mumbai. This apartment has three bedrooms on the lower level and one bedroom with a sitting area. The story begins with a problem statement that the client had put before GA Design. The layout of the duplex apartment was such that it would have been impossible to provide the client with a spacious living room. Now, the team had a problem statement ahead of them; surprisingly, they came up with the right solution. Let us understand its Material Of Architecture shortly. Material Of Architecture:
The material defines design. The better the grade of the material, the more durable the construction remains. The highlighting material of architecture of this project is the Statuario Marble, the wall-tile parametric panel, and the wood slat fluted wall panel.
Satuario Marble:
The Satuario marble backdrop is ideal for exterior flooring and wall cladding. It has wider use in both residential and commercial applications across the globe. Its design is composed of jagged grey lines over a white texture. Mined in India and the caliber of Indian marble is famous worldwide.
Advantages:
- Satuario marble is a durable and long-lasting material that withstands heavy use and exposure to the elements. This makes it well-suited for use as a backdrop in high-traffic areas.
- Satuario marble has a unique and elegant appearance, with a white base and grey veining. This can add a touch of luxury and sophistication to any space.
Factors to consider:
- Satuario marble is a high-end luxury material, which makes it quite expensive. This can make it cost-prohibitive for some individuals or businesses.
- Satuario marble is a porous stone, which can easily stain and etch if not properly sealed and maintained. This can be time-consuming and costly to keep it looking its best. Additionally, Marble is a fragile material, easy to break or crack, so it needs to be handled with care.
Parametric Wall Panel:
Aluminum, Copper, and Steel are ideal for making wall panels. They are durable. Below is an image of the parametric wall panel fitted in the Bijoux residence. Designer wall tiles are paneled here. The tiles resemble a honeycomb. The color of this panel is sandy brown. This panel also functions as a wall cladding.
Advantages:
- Parametric wall panels are computer-designed and fabricated, which allows for a high degree of customization. This makes it possible to create unique, complex shapes and patterns that would be difficult or impossible to achieve with traditional construction methods.
- The parametric design process can be automated, which can speed up the design and fabrication process, resulting in a more efficient construction process.
Factors to consider:
- The parametric design process can be quite complex and requires a high level of technical expertise. This can make it difficult for some individuals or businesses to use.
- Parametric wall panels can be expensive to design and fabricate, especially for more complex designs. This can make it cost-prohibitive for some individuals or businesses.
Wood Slat Fluted Panel:
It is crisp and robust. The wood is cut to perfection and polished to remove ruggedness. The gray shade accentuates the typical dark environment, fused with the surroundings.
Advantages:
- Wood slate fluted panels have a unique, rustic appearance that can add character and warmth to a space. The natural texture and variations in the color of the wood can create a dynamic and interesting visual effect.
- Renewable energy sources and sustainable building materials from the location to extract these woods.
Factors to consider:
- Wood is a porous material that can absorb moisture and swell or warp over time if not properly sealed and maintained. It is also susceptible to rot and insect damage if not protected from the elements.
- Wood is a natural resource and can be subject to fluctuations in price depending on supply and demand.
Concrete Textured Surface:
A concrete textured surface refers to a finish that replicates the appearance and feel of natural concrete. It provides a visually appealing and tactile experience, adding a modern and industrial aesthetic to spaces.
Advantages:
- Slip resistant.
- Customization is easily available for wider design possibilities.
Factors to consider:
- Cracks generate overtime.
- Involves periodic maintenance such as cleaning, sealing, and occasional repairs.
Conclusion:
The hard work and dedication of the architects in adhering to the client’s requirements are commendable. The way they have used these materials is a wonder in itself because the materials are eco-friendly and sustainable for a longer period.
